What is a doula?

A doula is a steady presence in one of life’s most vulnerable and transformative seasons.

As a certified birth and postpartum doula — and a mother of three teen— I bring both professional training and lived experience into the room with you. I have laboured. I have recovered. I have navigated the unknowns of new motherhood.I do not provide medical care. Instead, I provide calm, informed, unwavering support — emotionally, physically, and educationally — so you never feel alone in your decisions or your experience.

Birth is not just a medical event. It is a life event. And you deserve to feel held through it.

How are you different from my doctor or midwife?

Midwives and OBs are medical providers responsible for your medical care and your baby’s safety. A doula focuses solely on you — your comfort, your preferences, your emotional well-being, and your experience.I am there to support you with comfort measures, to remind you of your strength when things feel intense, and to help you feel grounded when decisions need to be made. Doulas work alongside your medical team to ensure you feel supported and heard. There is something powerful about having someone in the room whose only role is to care for you.

Do you only support unmedicated births?

No. I support informed, empowered women.Whether you’re planning a home birth or hospital birth, hoping for an unmedicated labour or choosing an epidural, my role is not to push an agenda. It’s to ensure you understand your options and feel confident in your decisions. When interventions are suggested, I encourage you to ask questions, understand the benefits and risks, and give true informed consent. You deserve clarity before anything is done to your body. And if your birth shifts — even to a cesarean — my support remains steady. I help you stay grounded, advocate for your preferences where possible, and process the experience with care. What matters most is not a perfect plan, but that you feel safe, respected, and heard.

When should I hire a doula?

Most families book in their second trimester to ensure availability, but I welcome inquiries at any stage of pregnancy. The earlier we begin working together, the more time we have to build trust, prepare thoughtfully, and create a plan that aligns with your values.

Will you replace my partner?

Not at all. As a mother and wife, I understand how important it is for partners to feel confident and included. I support partners by guiding them in practical ways to comfort you, offering reassurance, and giving them space to rest when needed. I request partners to be present at the prenatal meeting if possible, so I can teach them comfort measures and guide them on how to best advocate for you with the medical team.I am trained in labour and birth support - but your partner is the expert on YOU - he is your primary support, and we are both part of your birth team.
